LATHAM, N.Y. -- Families got to see a new twist on the typical school lunch. Healthy alternatives, from vegetables to lower calorie pizzas were showcased. Local chefs and nutritionists set up tasting tables Sunday at the Century house, where they gave tips on how to make smart choices when packing lunches.

Colleen Faragon brought along her three daughters, because she said it's never too early to encourage healthy eating.

“It's so important to teach them about healthy habits now. We want them to make good choices so at some point in their life they're not saying I need to watch my weight. We want them to do well now. We want them to eat healthy. We want them to exercise and just make good choices now,” said Faragon.

“The education of it, the availability of it, the options for it are something kids need to be more exposed to. The school systems been doing a great job at getting there, but this is another way that we add light to the whole course,” said Jaime Ortiz, Executive Chef Mazzone Hospitality.

Money raised from the event goes towards The Chef and Child Foundation to help fight childhood hunger and obesity.
