Local businesses in Ulster County are benefitting from this weekend’s storm, busy selling supplies to hundreds of outdoor enthusiasts before they make their way to the mountains. YNN’s Alexandra Weishaupt has more on the boom in business.

KINGSTON, N.Y. -- It’s a rush after the storm.

“We’ve had several hundred coming in to get tickets, rentals, new gear a little bit of everything,” said Potter Brothers Sales Associate Sammy Bryant.

Long lines of folks are getting sized for boots, buckling bindings and checking out skis. At Potter Brothers Ski and Snowboard Shop, the freshly fallen snow means one thing.

“The snow, more than anything, really drives sales. There’s lot of great bargains and opportunities to get equipment, but the snow is really what makes people inspired to go out and get new stuff,” said Bryant.

Folks head to Kingston from as far as New Jersey and Long Island to stock up. Ryan LaConture stopped in with family and friends before taking advantage of the new power at Windham Mountain.

“There should be a good amount of people, but once you go with a couple people, wear bright colors, it's gonna be a fun day,” said LaConture.

Over at Kenco, owner Bill Kennedy says sales were down during last season’s snow slump. But after this storm, things are looking up.

“Our business thrives on weather, so in the winter when we get snow storms, the store does really well,” said Kenco owner Bill Kennedy.

Shoppers there checked out snowshoes, cross-country skis and an array of warm weather gear.

“Our customers have figured it out that if you go out and enjoy the winter it’s not so bad,” said Kennedy.

With both shops on the path to the Catskill Mountain area, employees say it makes it all the more convenient for those looking to enjoy the remnants of the storm.

“Conditions like this, where you’ve got fresh snow and blue skies, it’s the perfect combination, so it’s worked out really well,” said Bryant.
