NORTHEAST UNITED STATES -- You may need that extra few minutes and layers of clothing if you plan on heading outside today. The first snowstorm of 2013 left residents all across the Northeast under blankets of snow.
Pittsfield woke up to ten inches of snow and Peru got close to 19! In Connecticut, some areas received closer to two and a half feet of snow.
The snowfall totals weren't too much to handle for Albany's residents though. Some kept positive and got straight to work.
Albany resident Pamela Gelgurt said, "Shoveling, just like we do every winter in the northeast. So, I'm pretty happy actually. You can still get around. Roads look great."
Local streets and major roads have seen ongoing plowing and salting since the early hours. People are urged to avoid traveling if possible.
