ALBANY, N.Y. -- Many people will have next Monday off in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Local charities and community leaders are asking people to help carry out King's message.

The Stakeholders Regional Volunteer Center is commending organizations in the Capital Region who embrace the Mission of Dr. Martin Luther King. The CEO says they are asking people to donate food this weekend in honor of their "I serve, dream campaign."

"Recognizes two national days of service per year. One is MLK Day and the other is September 11th. This program is designed to increase the food collection here in our community in order to meet the increased need of 11 percent for the food pantries," said Catherine Hedgeman, The Stakeholders Regional Volunteer Center CEO.
