ALBANY COUNTY, N.Y. -- State Police arrested a Colonie couple they say illegally bought a semi-automatic rifle from a gun shop.

State Police say Eric Coleman, 45, and Dawn Coleman, 35, bought the rifle from B&J’s Gun Shop on Central Avenue. They say Eric has a prior felony conviction for criminal possession of a weapon, cannot legally possess any firearm.

When the couple returned to the store on Tuesday to complete paperwork, State Police were there conducting surveillance. They say Dawn completed the paperwork and also bought ammunition. State Police say Eric then took possession of the gun.

The couple has been charged with criminal purchase of a weapon.
