MASSACHUSETTS -- Advocates for people with developmental disabilities are applauding Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick for signing a bill that will lessen IQ eligibility restrictions for services.

The new law will keep the Department of Developmental Services from denying state services to people scoring higher than 70 on IQ tests.

Advocates say the new law will open the door for services to thousands of people, especially those who have autism.

In July, the Massachusetts Court of Appeals invalidated the regulation allowing Developmental Services to create an IQ cutoff.
