UNITED STATES -- The cable channel founded by former Vice President Al Gore, Current TV, will be sold to Al Jazeera.

The sale of Current TV to the Middle East-based news organization became public Wednesday night. Shortly afterward, Time Warner Cable announced the termination of its agreement with Current TV.

Time Warner Cable will no longer carry Current TV and is in the process of removing the channel from its line up.

Former Vice President Gore was one of several founders and current investors of Current TV.

Time Warner Cable is the parent company of YNN.
