Tannenbaum out as general manager of the New York Jets

UNITED STATES -- The NFL regular season may be over for the New York Jets, but their front office is still hard at work.

Jets' owner Woody Johnson announced Monday morning that Mike Tannenbaum will not be returning next year as the general manager. Tannenbaum was a member of the Jets organization for 15 years.

However, Rex Ryan will be back as head coach. Johnson credited Ryan's passion and talent as the keys that will help the team be successful.

The Jets have been on decline after back to back AFC Championship appearances. They posted an 8-and-8 record last year followed by a 6-and-10 record this season.

It doesn't get much better Bills and Giants fans. Despite wins from both teams on Monday, neither will be representing New York in the playoffs.

While the Jets’ and Bills' fate was decided weeks ago, the Giants were still in the playoff hunt as of kickoff on Sunday. Big Blue jumped out to an early lead and never looked back, embarrassing NFC-East rival Philadelphia, 42 to 7.

The Giants did their job by winning, but they needed some help from other teams. It came down to Chicago etching out a win over Detroit that knocked the reigning Super Bowl champs out of contention for a repeat this season.

This is the first time since the 2003-2004 season that a New York team hasn't reached the playoffs.
