ALBANY, N.Y. -- Another community comes together to mourn, but also to look to the future after the death of a young woman in Albany.

Call to Pray Ministries on South Pearl Street held the memorial service in Tonette Thomas' memory Sunday. They recalled just how vibrant of a young woman she was and how often she brought a smile to people's faces.

Thomas was killed in a triple stabbing on Myrtle Avenue last month. Her sister and another relative were also injured.

In this time of grief, the church and other ministry leaders say this is an opportunity to talk about the violence.

“Any youth that leaves us in such an awful way, this church always brings the family back together after the services, so that the young people can have a chance to talk and express themselves,” said Ernestine Terrell, Community Memorial Organizer.

Leaders from "Stop the Violence" and SNUG say they will continue to hold gatherings like this as a forum for people to speak out about their pain.
