CAPITAL REGION, N.Y. -- Siena College is saying goodbye to a true saint. Longtime philanthropist Gino Turchi passed away Saturday at the age of 96.

Turchi was a staunch supporter of Siena, having first set up a trust fund there with his wife. The fund honored their son, Eugene, who died in 1993.

Turchi could often be found on campus and especially at Saints basketball games at the TU center.

The Turchi name was given to the theater in the MAC and the road leading to it.

The college conferred an honorary doctorate on Turchi in 2005.

Beyond Siena, he and his wife also supported the local YMCA, built what is now Eagle Crest Golf Club and were known as "angels" for their continued generosity and surprise gifts to people in need.
