GREENWICH, N.Y. -- It's been more than five years since 12-year-old Jaliek Rainwalker disappeared, and now the case is being considered a "probable child homicide."

The Cambridge-Greenwich Police Department held a news conference Thursday to announce that the case has been reclassified and is no longer considered a missing person case.

Jaliek was last seen back in 2007 when he was living with his adoptive parents, Stephen and Jocelyn Kerr. Stephen Kerr told authorities he believed Jaliek ran away from their house in the middle of the night because he was troubled.

Chief George Bell said, "The investigation indicates that Jaliek was most likely met with foul play as all reportings and sightings of Jaliek have been determined to be false and there is no indication he's still alive. Usually runaways surface shortly after disappearing because of lack of funds and planning on their part, and there's been absolutely no known contacts during the past five years from or with Jaliek."

Bell went on to say several people have been investigated and eliminated as possible suspects. He said investigators are confident they'll find who is responsible for his disappearance and will bring them to justice.

Bell also added that the yellow jacket Jaliek was wearing when he was last seen has been recovered and is now in the possession of the police department.
