KIRYAS JOEL, N.Y. -- "He crossed the street and got hit by the car," said Kiryas Joel Public Safety Director Moses Witriol.

A fatal accident involving a hit and run driver and a village sanitation worker. According to Witriol, the victim, Anastacio Vasquez of Spring Valley, was pronounced dead at the scene.

State Police say they're now looking for a white mini van, possibly with front end damage, that was spotted leaving the scene shortly before noon.

According to fellow sanitation worker, Mohammed Farrah, picking up garbage can be a dangerous occupation in this village.

"The speed limit here I think is 25. The people around drive 40 to 45. Too many times they've almost hit me," said Farrah.

By late afternoon firefighters replaced police investigators on the scene. Satmar Drive was almost set to re-open, just several hours after a man was killed here simply doing his job.

"I hope I pray to the gods, they're going to catch that person," said Farrah.

While State Police continue to investigate this fatal accident. They're asking anyone with information relating to this incident to call them at 782-8311.
