BRUNSWICK, N.Y. -- A Rensselaer County family is billed $1,500 for water that was used to extinguish a fire at their home.

The fire broke out Monday afternoon at their house on Garfield Road in the Town of Brunswick.

The Town of Poestenkill also responded to the fire, hooked up to the Town of Brunswick's water supply, and used hundreds of gallons of water to put the fire out.

The Town of Brunswick's water department then charged the Town of Poestenkill for the use of water.

The Poestenkill town supervisor says he is trying to recover those costs for his taxpayers.
