ULSTER COUNTY, N.Y. -- There could soon be a winner in the 46th State Senate district race as ballots are counted today in Ulster County. The county is the last of five to finish counting ballots.

The contest between Democrat Cecilia Tkaczyk and Republican George Amedore has been extremely close. Amedore's spokesperson says with Montgomery County wrapping up counting early Saturday morning, he now leads Tkaczyk by 920 votes.

Any contested ballots are being set aside and both sides are scheduled to head to court on Thursday.

Meantime, Republican Incumbent Steve Saland, Democrat Terry Gipson, and Republican Neil DiCarlo continue to wait as absentee ballots are counted in the race for the 41st State Senate District.

Dutchess County begins counting paper ballots today. The Board of Elections says the counting will happen in alphabetical order by town name.

Last week, Gipson had a roughly 1,700 vote lead over Saland.
