COLONIE, N.Y. -- Changes could soon be coming to the West Albany Fire District. The district currently consists of two companies: station one, which is located on Sand Creek Road, and station two on Osborne Road.

A fire commissioners’ meeting is scheduled for Tuesday night to discuss the future of the companies.

The stations are a mile apart and serve more than 6,000 people. The district itself is two miles wide.

District commissioners are considering a consolidation to save money, which would close the Osborne Road station.

According to a flyer released by those against the idea, the commissioners' actions would not save the district any money. Those opposed also say the consolidation would threaten public safety. We're told those who currently volunteer with Company Number Two could apply to join Company Number One.
