ALBANY, N.Y. -- A Rexford woman has been re-arraigned on charges that she hid an illegal immigrant in her home for years. Annie George, who also goes by Annie Kolath and Sajimol George, was arraigned in court Thursday morning.

The U.S. Department of Homeland Security and the Department of Immigration and Customs Enforcement say George hid the woman for nearly six years. Officials say she concealed, harbored and shielded the woman for her own personal financial gain from October 2005 through May of last year.

On Monday, the initial charge brought against her had been dropped because the federal government didn't bring the case to trial within 70 days. Her attorney says he is disappointed the government has decided to recharge his client.

"We feel the prosecution is over the top and this is a monetary matter that could be handled many other ways. This case should have been resolved a long time ago," said Mark J. Sacco, defense attorney.

If convicted, George faces up to ten years in prison and a $250,000 fine. Jury selection is scheduled for next month.
