MECHANICVILLE, N.Y. -- A wish comes true for a six year old Mechanicville boy who will now be able to do what every kid loves to do, play outside!

Nicholas Habel who has Down Syndrome, put in the request to do just that about a year ago. Nicholas' father Darik said because of the proximity of their yard to a busy road, being outside was more stressful than enjoyable. But thanks to a New Paltz business, Gifts From the Heart for Downs, a private donation, and volunteers, a fence was constructed Saturday at the Habel home north of Albany.

The elder Habel said he is certain his new fenced in yard will get plenty of use.

Darik Habel, Nicholas’s father said, “The road is big concern of ours because there is a lot of traffic. We try to keep him right on the property. This is going to just be a God send it really is."

Gifts from the Heart for Downs is a non-profit organization out of the Hudson Valley that grants wishes for children with Down Syndrome all over the U.S.
