SARATOGA COUNTY, N.Y. -- Stillwater Central School District students are going high tech, bringing tablet computers into the classroom.

The district's One-to-One program gave iPads to all fifth and sixth grade students and teachers. School officials say bringing the technology into the classroom will make students better prepared for the ever-evolving high tech world. It also allows them to put their work online, helping them connect to and learn with their classmates.

School officials hope to add more tablets soon.

"Apple just announced last week digital textbooks available at about a fourth of the cost of a normal textbook, so we're looking to make that a widespread distribution in the classroom and lower our costs and give the students a richer experience," said Chris Lynch, IT director.

The company behind the iPad is even recognizing Stillwater. An Apple representative presented a plaque to school board on Tuesday for incorporating the iPad into classroom lessons.
