CAPITAL REGION, N.Y. -- What would Sunday's big game be without some big time commercials, especially one featuring one of the biggest names in the Capital Region?
That's right, GE's Electric City plant and some of its factory workers will be front and center on the silver screen during a 45 second spot during the epic Patriots-Giants rematch.
"It went from one thing to the next, to the next, to the next and now we're going to be in the Super Bowl," said Tom Amell, a final assembly machinist.
Amell is one of four Schenectady plant employees to star in the commercial that touts the many practical uses of the turbine engines they help build.
"You know, they're an essential part of our lifestyle and our livelihood and our world economy. So what we do here is a big deal," said Ronald Folmsbee.
Especially for football fans looking to celebrate Sunday.
"All the hours of filming, all the weird shots they're taking, you kind of wonder where they're going with it, but when you see the final cut, it came out great and I'm really excited to be a part of it," production leader Brad Heil said.
The opportunity to get some face time during the Super Bowl came as a huge surprise. These guys were simply doing their jobs when the camera crews rolled in.
Folmsbee said, "It looked nice and shiny and flashy and the director said 'this looks like a good place to set up.' The company really wanted to portray who's behind the products."
"And they said would you like to do a screening and I said, 'oh yeah, what the heck!' Very interesting experience. I'd do it again in a heartbeat!" Amell said.
